Hopes vs. Expectations...

The other week I discussed expectations, and I wanted to make sure to clarify that there is a difference between expectations and hopes.
We all have hopes ....

~ we hope to marry the perfect person; we hope to have the family that we have dreamed of; we hope to win a million dollars....the list goes on.  The dilemma is, however, if we don't play the lottery we can't expect to win a million dollars....

I am asked so many times if we need to give up our hopes...the answer isn't a clear or easy one.  We can certainly hold on to our hopes.  For some it is a matter of believing that God will give us what we hope for. We can hold on to hope that our spouse will become the person we want them to be and we can hope to someday win a million dollars..but...I would suggest that if our hope is creating resentment then it might be time to reevaluate if our hopes are realistic.  Are our hopes about us or are they hopes for change in others. Is our spouse really going to one day decide, without there own desire, to change into something we want?

Sometimes it is a matter of grieving what we want, accepting what we have and finding joy in that.
